Prolon

Back in February of 2019, while I was being treated for a post-op wound infection in my foot, I complained to my doctor, Dr. Kazu Suzuki, that he was placing too many physical restrictions on me, a very active and athletic person, and I was terribly worried about weight gain. Dr. Suzuki looked at me and smiled, “Just go on the Prolon program and you will feel better.” He explained to me that he and his wife were devotees and he proceeded to hand me a book written by Prolon creator, Dr. Valter Longo. Dr. Longo is Dr. Valter Longo is the Edna M. Jones Professor of Gerontology and Biological Sciences and Director of the Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California—Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, Los Angeles, one of the leading centers for research on aging and age-related disease. Dr. Longo is also the Director of the Longevity and Cancer Program at the IFOM Institute of Molecular Oncology in Milan, Italy. Dr. Longo has received numerous awards for his work, and in 2018 he: was named by “Time Magazine” one of the 50 most influential people in health care for his research on fasting-mimicking diets as a way to improve health and prevent disease. After reading the book and doing a little internet research, I decided to give it a try. Full disclosure, on the very last visit to Dr. Suzuki after my wound had completely healed, he presented me with the Prolon box, as my graduation present!

So off I went with my box of Prolon and decided to give it a go a couple of weeks later. So what is Prolon? It is a natural plant-based diet that was pre-clinically and clinically tested at The Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California. The program delivers scientifically researched micro-and macro-nutrient in precise quantities and combinations that nourish you but are not recognized as food by your body, and therefore mimics a fasting state. The program triggers “autophagy,” your body’s natural way of cleaning house. Your cells clean and recycle old and damaged parts, resulting in a profound benefit: cellular rejuvenation. I can say with all honesty, that I have plenty of energy, increased focus and mental clarity and the weight loss is an undeniable bonus.

People have asked me why I do this program twice a year. My answer is simple…because it works. It is like pressing the reset button on my eating habits. We all try to maintain a healthy lifestyle with a proper diet and regular exercise. However, there are times when my eating habits go off the rails, so to speak, and I need to rein it in… a little too much chocolate, too many carbs, a little too much wine, and before you know it, you have drifted into dangerous territory. The best part of this program is that it lasts for only 5 days and delivers excellent results that carry over long after the 5 days.

One of the supplements that are included from days 2-5 is vegetable-based glycerin that is diluted in water. This L-Drink, as it is called, is meant to protect your amino acids while in fasting mode, and to promote hydration.

The program is not for the faint of heart, but the results are definitely worth the effort…and it’s only 5 days out of your life! I highly recommend it and would love to hear from you after you try it. Feel free to reach out to me personally with any questions.
