Elizabeth Reid Socks

Sock Hop

Socks, socks, socks… these have become a favorite accessory, gift idea, and the best buddy to my feet! Socks keep my toes warm in the winter, and cool in the summer. And when they look as stylish as these… well, that’s a triple win!

I am in love with my Elizabeth Reid socks; so much so that I am devoting a trilogy of posts to them; this is the first installment. If you refer back to my Mother’s Day gift guide post, you will find that I included Elizabeth Reid socks as a fabulous gift idea. That’s because they make a wonderful gift for any occasion, not only Mother’s Day.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Elizabeth last week from her home in NYC. Elizabeth’s journey to “sockdom,” began from her earlier career as a marketing manager for brands like MAC, Valentino, Mulberry, and David Yurman. Globalizing some of these brands meant traveling all over the world. She led a busy and exciting life, but her feet were not at all as thrilled about it as she was. The wear and tear took its toll on them and she would often return home with painful blisters. She tried different socks, but could not find ones that were soft, comfortable, cool, and chic… and certainly, none that would stay put in a shoe (the latter is the most annoying of all!).

So, Elizabeth did what any resourceful, sharp industrious woman would do… she decided to manufacture her own socks, and “Elizabeth Reid Socks” was born. By using her contacts and resources, she was able to source the softest and finest yarns and found manufacturers in both Italy and Portugal. She derived her design inspiration from the runways. With the trends all being directed towards comfortable shoes, sneakers, and flats, there was plenty of room and need for socks.

Elizabeth’s designs come from the heart. She has terry socks that pay homage to her childhood, studded socks are a nod to her love of both rock and roll, and her days at Valentino; her ruffle socks were designed to go with short boots and are made of vegan leather and silk. As you can tell, there is much thought and care behind her socks and after wearing them, I can attest to both their incredible comfort and versatility. Everything down to the reusable chic ziplock bag that houses each sock makes these a no-brainer for gift giving. From birthdays to hostess gifts, these socks would make anyone’s feet perk up with joy. What hostess wouldn’t love receiving these as a ‘“thank you for having us to dinner” gift?

Elizabeth Reid, you have certainly filled a void in the accessory market, and with that you are literally filling some big (and small) shoes!
